3pd developers, extensions and Moovur
We get a lot of requests for Moovur integration in 3pd extensions by mail. Moovur was designed to make it very easy for 3pd developers to integrate Moovur into their products and we've written some serious documentation on how to do that.
The challenge is the following, we would love to have many Moovur plugins or integrations in 3pd extensions but we can't handle it all by ourselves since Moovur is a free extension and doesn't pay our bills.
We are currently looking Moovur RC2 to be released upcoming Friday, this will be a bugfix release and as it stands now no extra features will be added but you never know with a coder as Anthony. The idea for the version after that is to create an installer that will make it very easy to install language packs and Moovur plugins into your system.
With that installer we want to have a section on our site or forge where all the available Moovur plugins and language packs live so we can do some great install magic with them.
How can you help?
Contact your 3pd extension developers and ask them if they would be so kind to integrate Moovur directly or write a plugin for it. We are here to help them out where ever we can.
At the moment there is a plugin for jomsocial which is very popular and we have found the jomsocial developers willing to take over the maintenance of that plugin because they move very fast with developing their software and this way the Moovur plugin can be kept in sync with that. We will host the plugin and they will get some nice traffic in return and their users will be happy.
Jxtended is looking at integrating Moovur into their products, we've had requests for RSforms, Community Builder, Jambook, EasyBook and QContact so if you use these extensions please point the devs to this post and ask them with your most friendly voice to create a plugin too :-)
Let's make it a joint effort like it should be in Open Source land.
A short update after a week live
We've launched Moovum a week ago so lets see what happened. Moovur has had a positive response by the community with many people registering, downloading and installing the software.
Right now there are 240 active Joomla! sites using Mollom and Dries just tweeted:
"Mollom's efficiency jumped from 99.93% to 99.94%. Sounds like a small deal, but only 6 out of 10,000 spam messages slip through now!"
So lets think we the Joomla! and Moovur users are responsible for teaching Mollom some new tricks to be more efficient shall we.
We've had a user starting to integrate Moovur with JomSocial and Anthony helped out a bit with creating a plugin for it, it took him under 10 minutes to produce. We also have a Hungarian and a Dutch translation now. Both the plugin and the translations will be added to the RC2 release which we hope to set free end of the week or early next week. This release will also contain some bug fixes and some new options for showing image and audio captcha. Upgrading will be easy.
Thanks everyone for the feedback and downloading Moovur. If you have 3pd extensions that you would like to see Moovur integrated with please urge the developer to take a look at it and have us help if needed. Translations are always welcome too, you can find the latest and greatest on our forge via svn.
Let's chat on the UK Joomla! Days 2009
Wilco and Anthony will be in the UK to represent the Joomla! project on the UK Joomla! days. Besides being there for all things Joomla! they are of course also representing Moovum and would love to meet for a general chit chat or set up a business meeting.
The UK Joomladay is set to take place over Friday, 13th and Saturday, 14th March 2009, at the Oakwood House Conference Centre, Maidstone, Kent.
This is a community event and accordingly is not split into separate business and community days. There will be multiple tracks of presentations during the two days, and some of the topics will be repeated so people have the opportunity to visit the sessions they want to visit. You can find more information on jfoobar where Wilco made a blogpost.
Where did your registration go?
Past days we have seen people register on out site. Some of the people who registered did not receive their activation mail. We have found out that in come circumstances the mail ends up in the mail spam...this has nothing to do with Moovur, but could be a specific situation with your provider.
Please send us a note by contacting us when you have registered but not have received you confirmation mail. We have tried to improve the situation by moving to another mail server.
