Wrapping up the last bits and pieces

Written by Arno Zijlstra Thursday 12-02-2009

We've been working hard the past couple of weeks and are nearing the day to launch the site and Moovum as a professional Joomla! services company in general. Starting something from the ground up is hard but on the other side a great thing to do especially when you are working with a great team with like minds.

We have a great balance in the Moovum team, we all have our different skill sets and with knowing these skill sets from one another and trusting your colleagues it is possible to do incredible things in very little time.

We've build a new website on Joomla! 1.5, a support forum and the plugins that manage single sign-on between the site and forum, some custom components, modules and plugins for use on our own site and of course our first product called Moovur (the ground work for some other superb products are in version controls as well).

Moovum has some great stuff coming in the future and our plans are big and solid, we hope you enjoy our effort and we are always open for feedback about anything.

Review with Dries and Benjamin

Written by Arno Zijlstra Saturday 07-02-2009

Last night we've had the first presentation of the site and Moovur to Dries Buytaert and Benjamin Schrauwen, the creators of Mollom.

Wilco prepared a demo of the product and we ran trough the site. Everything worked great and we got some useful tips from them for making Moovur communicate with the Mollom servers in the most fine tuned way.

We've installed Moovur on jfoobar to test it in a live environment for the first time and things seems to work like we expected.

Robin is writing the user documentation and Wilco did the first draft of the developer documentation so we are making great progress. Planning for going live next week, very exiting.

Meet us at FOSDEM 2009 Brussels, Belgium

Written by Arno Zijlstra Friday 30-01-2009

At 7-8 February 2009 Wilco, Arno and hopefully Robin will be at the FOSDEM in Brussels Belgium. We would love to meet, chit chat, do business and shake hands with you so come over if you can.

Besides being at FOSDEM for Moovum we will all be there to promote Joomla! in every way we can.

What is FOSDEM?

FOSDEM is a free and non-commercial event organized by the community for the community. The goal is to provide Free Software and Open Source developers and communities a place to meet to:

  • get in touch with other developers and projects;
  • be informed about the latest developments in the Free Software and Open Source world;
  • attend interesting talks and presentations held in large conference rooms by Free Software and Open Source project leaders and committers on various topics;
  • to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software and Open Source solutions.

Moovum website technical

Written by Wilco Jansen Thursday 29-01-2009

The Moovum site is a default Joomla! site running on a dedicated server (lighttpd and mysql). We have implemented some extensions to make the site running like the way we do. So far the most challenging of this site was creating the content and also create a proper design, both driven by the talent and dedication of Arno.

As there is no real good integrated forum solution for Joomla! we have selected a forum solution on our own. SMF is out of the question, this because of the lack of a proper bridge and their stance against the derivative work definition within Joomla! PHPBB would have been a logical choice, but we ended up with Phorum because of it's flexibility and ease of use when it comes to templating.

We have written a Phorum to Joomla! bride to integrate Phorum as if it is part of the Joomla! installation. To make that happen we have created a GPL'ed version of a Joomla! user plugin, and we have created a Phorum module (Apache 2.0 licenced) to make bi-directional login/logout and user management possible.

We have implemented Moovur (Joomla! extension that implements Mollom) to protect ourselves from the Spam maffia. You can download Moovur for free from this website. We provide a user manual, and a technical manual for developers to incorporate Moovur into their solutions to fight the spammers.
